About the Artist
Adrian Prabava studied violin at the Detmold University of Music and subsequently studied conducting under Eiji Oue at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover. He also attended master classes with Jorma Panula, who, along with Kurt Masur and Bernard Haitink, became an important mentor to him.
Biography
In the 2025–2026 season, German-Indonesian conductor Adrian Prabava will return to the Orchestre National de Metz Grand-Est and the Stuttgart Philharmonic, among others, with whom he will tour Japan and South Korea.

Following his great success at the 49th International Competition for Young Conductors in Besançon in 2005, Kurt Masur appointed him as his assistant at the Orchestre National de France in Paris from 2006 to 2009. In 2007, he was selected as the first recipient of the Bernard Haitink Fund for Young Talent. In this role, he worked closely with Bernard Haitink as an assistant at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam.
As an opera conductor, he led a wide-ranging repertoire during his tenure as resident conductor and associate music director at the Theater Altenburg Gera and with the Altenburg Gera Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany. He received rave reviews for his production of Shostakovich’s operetta *Moskva Cheremushki*. Adrian Prabava has also made guest appearances at the Komische Oper Berlin (“Die Fledermaus”; “The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny”), the Theater Bonn (“Hansel and Gretel”), and the Theater Magdeburg (“The Turn of the Screw”). More recently, Adrian Prabava conducted two major opera productions that were highly praised by critics: Antonín Dvořák’s “Rusalka” at the Konzert Theater Bern and the revival of Richard Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava. The production of Richard Wagner’s “Die Walküre,” which he conducted to great acclaim at the Opéra de Marseille in February 2022, was particularly well received by the press.
