Matija Raičević (2002) belongs to a new generation of clarinetists who attract attention with his musicality, expressive sound, and thoughtful interpretative approach

Biography

He is among the clarinetists who has successfully and equally mastered both the German and French clarinet systems, the two principal technical traditions of the instrument. He studied with renowned clarinetist and pedagogue François Benda at the Hochschule für Musik FHNW in Basel, earning a Master of Arts in Music Performance and a Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance (Solist).

He completed both programs with highest distinction and honours. His artistic development has been shaped by collaborations with distinguished musicians, as well as early professional engagements that already include significant solo, chamber, orchestral, and contemporary performances. As a soloist, Raičević has performed with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, and the Slovenian Philharmonic, among others. His concert activities regularly lead him to major European venues, including the Great Hall and Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, the Stadtcasino Basel, and other prestigious European stages. He has collaborated with esteemed conductors such as Heinz Holliger, Baldur Brönnimann, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, Giovanni Antonini, Michael Schønwandt, Karl-Heinz Steffens, and Anthony Gabriele. As a chamber musician, he further developed his skills working with Claudio Martínez Mehner, Anna Gebert and Anton Kernjak. He has also performed alongside Felix Renggli, Sergio Azzolini, Diego Chenna, and Přemysl Vojta. He is a scholarship holder of the renowned Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz program, which brings together exceptional young musicians for intensive projects with leading international artists. He further expanded his artistic profile as a participant of the prestigious Grafenegg Festival Academy in Austria in 2026. Raičević is the recipient of numerous national and international awards and recognitions, among which the Basler Orchester-Gesellschaft Prize in Switzerland for outstanding artistic performance stands out as one of the most recent. His repertoire ranges from Classical and Romantic works to contemporary compositions, reflecting his curiosity and commitment to expanding the clarinet’s expressive possibilities. With technical and interpretative assurance, Matija Raičević is establishing himself as one of the most promising clarinetists of his generation.
