Véronique Valdès was born in Switzerland and is a graduate of Mannes College in New York City, where she studied with Arthur Levy. She is the recipient of the prestigious Migros Culture Percentage Scholarship from Switzerland. As a Young Artist, she participated in the Académie Européenne de Musique at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and was also part of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme. She receives vocal coaching from the renowned soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci.
At the Teatro La Fenice, Véronique portrayed the role of Nomio-Apollo in Vivaldi’s *Dorilla in Tempe*, conducted by Diego Fasolis, a role she also sang at the Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland. She appeared as Carmi in Mozart’s *Betulia Liberata* at the Teatro Olimpico during the Festival Vicenza in Lirica. In New York, she sang the title role in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with Mannes Opera, as well as Donna Rosa in Daniel Catán’s Il Postino, conducted by Joseph Colaneri, and L’Enfant in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges with Bare Opera New York, under the direction of Sesto Quatrini.
In Italy, she appeared as Madame de la Haltière in Massenet’s *Cendrillon* at the Siena Music Festival under David Jackson and sang Ottone in Monteverdi’s *L’Incoronazione di Poppea* with the Hampstead Garden Opera in London. Her engagements in Switzerland include Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina with Ouverture-Opéra, Lazuli in Chabrier’s L’Étoile with Oper im Park, Viscardo in Bellini’s Bianca e Fernando with Opera St. Moritz, and Flora in Verdi’s La Traviata with Concertus Saisonnus in Geneva.
Véronique is a frequent performer of Poulenc’s *La Voix humaine* and has sung this role at the Théâtre Les Salons in Geneva, the Théâtre Équilibre in Fribourg, the Festival Les Art’Scènes in Nantes, the Concerts de Grandson, and the MusiQuart Festival in Valencia, Spain.
As an active recitalist and oratorio singer, she has performed in the past in the United Kingdom for the Britten-Pears Foundation, in New York City for the Swiss Consulate and the Bulgarian Concert Evenings, and in Beirut for the Swiss Embassy. In Switzerland, she has performed at the Festival Piano à Porrentruy, the Festival de la Cité de Lausanne, with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, at the Festival Piano à Saint-Ursanne and the Concerts d’Été in Saint-Germain, as well as with Tempus Armonicum alongside Sara Mingardo.
Her engagements also included *Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda* with the CPO in Lausanne, a recital with Olivia Gay at the Patchwork Festival in Delémont, Saint-Saëns’ *Oratorio de Noël* with Gonzalo Martinez in Annecy, and a performance of *La Voix humaine* at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires.
